He joined Pak Army after completing his education. Captain Muhammad Safdar Awan married Maryam Nawaz in 1992. When he was married to Maryam Nawaz Sharif, he is serving as captain of the Pakistan Army and had been the Military Secretary to the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.
After that, he retired from Pak Army as a captain and joined civil services. After that Muhammad Safdar Awan was posted as an assistant commissioner in Model Town Lahore.
